Trek Overview

This is a nice trek which culminates in a spectacular view of Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, from the top of the nearly 5000 m Goecha La.  The trek has many nice view points along the way and passes through one of the most impressive rhododendron forests I've seen.  The trail does increase in altitude for Yuksom quite rapidity in fact a one of the guys who was trekking with me had to go down after he came down with symptoms of AMS.  Unfortunately permit which can only be obtained through a travel agent is required which puts the trek off limits for those wishing to go independently.  If your looking to do the trek and just need the required permit and guide and have some flexibility on dates its probably best to show up in Gantok or Darjeeling and start asking around the various agencies for one that will give you the best rate.  If you are interested in have in all inclusive Trek its probably best to get recommendations form people who have recently done the trek if you are worried about quality of food service, ect.
